Jonnie Irwin praises launch of the Alliance of International Property Owners (AIPO)

Jonnie is known to many as one of the presenters of A Place in the Sun TV show, incredibly nearing 2,000 episodes over an 18 year period.

We caught up with Jonnie at A Place in the Sun Live at London’s Olympia and here’s what he told us:

“The launch of the Alliance of International Property Owners (AIPO) plugs a big and important gap in supporting British owners & buyers of a foreign property. As it’s a bit of a mouthful, let’s just call it the ‘Alliance’ shall we?!

"The Alliance is a timely and logical step to take"

I am pleased to see the overseas property industry, through members of the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP), launch the Alliance – supporting the 1 million Brits in the UK who now own a foreign property. I’ve met the AIPP CEO, Peter Robinson, on several occasions to hear of their work in consumer education and protection and their launch of the dedicated Alliance is a timely and logical step to take.

I really like the Alliance slogan “buy right, own well” as the ideal way to approach foreign property ownership. As I always say, buying abroad is very different to here in the UK, with a host of unfamiliar rules, regulations and trade practices.

Unforeseen events crop up in every sphere of life, but when this could be 1000 miles or more away in a foreign country it’s good to know the Alliance in the UK has the knowledge and contacts to help its members, whether they are buyers or owners.

Property ownership anywhere is rarely a case of ‘plain sailing’ and buyers in particular should do their research and seek some professional help before venturing out – particularly independent legal advice – it’s free for buyers and owners via the Alliance.

As the cost of living does not seem to be getting any cheaper, I also really applaud the Alliance’s mission to lower the cost of foreign property ownership by bringing members advice and offers from some of the best professionals in the business.
