Top 10 Beaches in Costa Blanca (and where to buy property!)

There are over 200km of beaches on the Costa Blanca and with so much choice it’s difficult to pick a favourite, or even narrow the choice down to a top ten. We asked Spanish property experts and AIPP Members, Medland Spain for their favourites…

So, in no particular order,

here’s our selection of the most popular beaches on the White Coast.

But we advise you explore them all in person to decide on your favourite…

1. LA MATA BEACH, TORREVIEJA

With over 320 days of sun, La Mata is ideal for the beach lover. The beach has a promenade and is lined with cafes and shops selling souvenirs. Every Wednesday morning the promenade is alive with activity, the outdoor market selling local produce and handicrafts. After shopping and a bite, grab a lawn chair on the sand or just spread your towel, lie back, and enjoy one of the many, many days of perfect weather. See Medlands La Mata properties here.

2. ARENAL BEACH, JAVEA

Arenal Beach is a place for the whole family to enjoy the sea and sand. This beach is well maintained with clean sand and a walkway for relaxed strolls. The water is shallow and calm, so it’s perfect for wading and swimming. Cafes and restaurants line the beach. There are also lounge chairs for rent, restrooms and a children’s play area. See Medland’s properties in Javea here.

3. PONIENTE BEACH, BENIDORM

Relax in the crystal clear waters of Poniente Beach. This urban beach is well-known for sunbathing and water sports because of its clean sand and uncrowded shores. Build sandcastles in the sun or grab an ice cream and walk the surrounding promenade. The beach is within short walking distance of old town if you feel like stopping for a meal. See Medland’s properties in Benidorm here.

4. PLAYA LA GRANADELLA, JAVEA

This cove beach provides an ideal setting for swimming and snorkelling. It’s quite secluded so feels more private & crowd free, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a place to lay your towel. Don’t forget shoes or sandals as the rocks and caves of this pebbled beach cry out for exploration. You can rent a kayak to paddle around the cove or hike up trails on the neighbouring hillside and into the surrounding pine forest. A couple of restaurants serve meals and refreshments. See Medland’s Javea properties here.

5. PLAYA DE LEVANTE, BENIDORM

See Medland’s Benidorm properties here.

6. CALA FINESTRAT BEACH, FINESTRAT

The small, sandy beach of Cala Finestrat is perfect for relaxation. Unwind on a sun lounger, paddle in the sea, or explore on a pedal boat. It’s a child friendly beach perfect for building sandcastles and has a play area. There are many bars & restaurants along the promenade in which to sip sangria and watch the world go by or pop into the nearby shops nearby to pick up snacks and any forgotten beach necessities. The sea gets deep quite quickly though so the less confident swimmers and those with children should keep that in mind. See Medland’s Finestrat properties here.

7. PLAYA DE LEVANTE O LA FOSSA, CALPE

Playa de Levante o la Fossa is a well kept beach served by a promenade with many restaurants and shops, popular for its long stretches of sandy and calm, shallow waters. Enjoy sea views & sangria before slipping into crystal-clear waters for a relaxing float, the calm waters making snorkelling a pleasure. The beach is well connected by public transport, has handicap access and a lifeguard on duty. The site has earned a EU Blue Flag for its cleanliness, safety, and accessibility. See Medland’s Calpe properties here.

8. ALTEA BEACH, ALTEA

The white rock shore of Altea beach is perfect to stretch your legs, wandering next to turquoise waters. An expansive stone beach, lined with restaurants and bars that serve both local and international recipes. Grab a table to enjoy the views of the coast while enjoying a cocktail or bring a picnic to enjoy closer to the water. Bike rentals take the strain from tired feet to peruse the shops that separate the town from the beach. To get there you can take local bus number 10. See Medland’s Altea properties here.

9. MONCAYO BEACH , GUARDAMAR DEL SEGURA

A lovely little beach with a bar just a short walk away. There are comfy sun beds & umbrellas to hire and the sand is beautiful without rocks or pebbles, even if you go for a paddle. It’s very well kept and suitable for children, although the sea around Guardamar can be unpredictable with strong currents, so keep an eye on the warning signs & listen to the lifeguards. It’s not quite a well-kept secret but almost… See Medland’s Guardamar properties here.

10. CALA DEL MORAIG, BENITACHELL

Cala Moraig is a lovely little cove but can get very busy during the summer. The hill out of the cove is extremely steep. It’s not a sandy beach, so shoes are recommended. The furthest part of the beach is nudist, so stay away from that section if that’s not your cup of tea! See Medland’s Benitachell properties here.
